Tina Modotti

TINA MODOTTI IS DEAD

Tina Modotti, sister, you do not sleep, no, you do not sleep.
Perhaps your heart hears the rose of yesterday
growing, the last rose of yesterday, the new rose.
Rest gently, sister.

The new rose is yours, the new earth is yours:
you have put on a new dress of deep seed
and your soft silence is filled with roots.
You shall not sleep in vain, sister.

Pure is your gentle name, pure is your fragile life.
Of bee, shadow, fire, snow, silence, foam,
of steel, line, pollen was built your tough,
your slender structure.

The jackal at the jewel of your sleeping body
still shows the white feather and the bloody soul
as if you, sister, could rise up,
smiling above the mud.

To my country I take you so that they will not touch you,
to my snow country so that your purity
will be far from the assassin, the jackal, the Judas:
there you will be at peace.

Do you hear a step, a step-filled step, something
huge from the great plain, from the Don, from the cold?
Do you hear the firm step of a soldier upon the snow?
Sister, they are your steps.

They will pass one day by your little tomb
before yesterday’s roses are withered,
the steps of tomorrow will pass by to see
where your silence is burning.

A world marches to the place where you were going, sister.
The songs of your mouth advance each day
in the mouths of the glorious people that you loved.
Your heart was brave.

In your country’s old kitchens, on the dusty roads,
something is said and passes on,
something returns to the flame of your golden people,
something awakes and sings.

They are your people, sister: those who today speak your name,
we who from everywhere, from the water and the land,
with your name leave unspoken and speak other names.
Because fire does not die.

Pablo Neruda – (Third Residence)

Today I’ll mention about very legendary woman. She is very important for photography art. And also Pablo Neruda has a poem about her. If you’ve read the poem, you are now also emotional and wondering about this woman. She influenced the whole world with her approach to photography. And of course she had a deep connection with politics. Besides, I have to say that she was friends with Frida Kahlo and Diego Riviera.

I will show you only some of her works today. I will talk about her relationships with art and some other parts. Tina was very famous with her beauty. And it drew attention with its strength. She entered the art world with own talent for the theater. She has a movies playing the leading role.

After meeting Edward Weston, she became very interested in photography. Edward’s favorite model was Tina. They made works that everyone talked about her beauty. Later than, Edward and Tina made a some deal. If Tina give a permission for nude photos, he’ll give lesson about how can be a good photographer.

She focused the people’s routine stuff generally. These photos with aesthetic concerns presented social events in a beautiful way. She followed social movements closely and loved to photograph them.

Throughout her life, faced many accusations with her ideas and actions. One of them was accused of murdering Julio Antonio Mella. Mella was assassinated right next to her. And he was Tina’s lover and a Cuban revolutionary.

The Soul of the Rose, John William Waterhouse, 1908

The Soul of the Rose

This painting is one of the most remarkable works of Waterhouse. In his paintings, he often uses red-haired models and is influenced by Pre-Raphaelite.

While looking at the picture, gorgeous flowers and an elegant outfit catch our eye. The work offers us an opportunity beyond seeing: smelling. The wonderful expression of the woman in the work and other details invite you to sniff the rose.

The fascinating palette and narration of Waterhouse also affected the art world. It is said that Tennyson’s poem, Maud, was influenced by this work.

However, I would like to talk a little bit about the Pre-Raphaelite. Many admired works of the art world belong to this trend. Like Millais’s Ophelia painting. They love to convey these historical events in a narrative style. They work mostly in nature, just like in this work by Waterhouse. Upon the word of Raffaello, they accept beauty as the greatest element of art. The beauty of the female expression and emotion in this painting is also admirable.

Artist

Leonora Carrington

Today I’m going to talk about a surrealist woman painter. She is very tough, creative, little bit mad (I mean a good sense) and determined. Of course all of this characteristic skills took her to success.

Bird Bath

In her childhood, she listened to fairy tales and Celtic folklore stories from her nanny and played with animals. This situation turned the animals and Celtic stories into symbolic topics in her works.
After being fired from 2 monasteries, her family could not stand their insistence and sent her to the art school. Carrington started studying art in Florence and was impressed by the baroque architecture and renaissance. Later she was educated elsewhere and joined surrealism.

She met with Max Ernst at some party and they’re fall in love each other. Ernst broke up his wife for Carrington and started living with. But this lovers fell apart because France was occupied. Ernst left France, Carrinton experienced deep psychological crises in this process. She spent a certain period of time in a mental hospital in Madrid. She even has a book in which describes this process.

Portrait of Max Ernst

She returned to art with the encouragement of some valuable names. She received invitations from numerous surrealist exhibitions and published many articles.

Self-portrait (Inn of the Dawn Horse)

Generally her work’s themes such as metamorphosis and magic. She wonderfully reflected the unconscious mind and dream world into own paintings. She decorated this imagination world with figures such as Celtic literature, Renaissance painting, Central American folk art, medieval alchemy and Jungian psychology. Some beautiful, creative, creepy figures and works consisting of half human and half animals were engraved in our mind.

Raphael, The Entombment, 1507

I am here with one of the most well-known painters of the Renaissance period. Italian painter Raphael died at a young age, but he left valuable works to whole world. His best known magnificent work’s name is The School of Athens.

During the Renaissance, his name was mentioned with Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci. He worked for 2 Popes in the wonderful 12 years in Rome.

He was known for being warm, sincere and modest. Raphael was a big fan of Leonardo da Vinci in his 30s. By studying this Renaissance master, he began to understand the dynamic movement, sfumato and chiaroscuro. Of course he impressed by Michelangelo but Michelango not being so friendly for him. He had a some kind competition with Michelangelo.

The burial of Christ was a very popular topic during the Renaissance. Apart from Raphael, Caravaggio and Michelangelo have pictures on the same subject.

When we look at the picture, there is a crucifixion on the right side of Mount Calvary, on the left there is a cave where the Coffin will be formed. With the lights shining on them, the two men carry Christ with a piece of linen. Behind and to the left are St. John and Nicodemus, Mary Magdalene holding the hand of Christ. On the far right, there are three Virgin Mary who cannot bear this devastating sadness. It reflects the mother’s pain perfectly. The pale skin of Jesus, the kneeling of the mother with an uncomfortable attitude on the right is remarkable.

I admire this masterfully crafted work, and I remember Raphael with respect. Thanks for reading.

Frederic Leighton, Flaming June, 1895

Today I want to mention about with painting, I’m feeling adoration on itself. This work belong in Victoria’s period. And it has to very hight contrast and flaming colours, actually like own name. Frederic Leighton mentioned to Flaming June on Michelangelo’s work “Night”.

British artist Frederic Leighton’s first work to draw attention with warm colors, used by the artist.

The woman’s orange dress, who is having a nap, fascinates the person with all her contrast. The details of the woman’s face and posture are other great elements. In addition to painting the picture asleep, there are images that show the opposite of this comfort. In the painting we see oleander flower, which reflects the state of sleep and death. While looking at the table, you can feel the feeling of hot air hitting your face.

Honestly, when I look at the picture, I see a different spell. I believe that the colors adapt to the subject, explained with a wonderful technique and that the colors find their own self.

Architectural

Belvedere, Vienna

Today I will write about a place that is the heart of art. How did I decide on this? If I am writing an art blog, I thought it would be strange not to write about the most important structures of art. So here I am.

Austria was the strongest country in Europe for a while. When this was the case, palaces and magnificent structures were built. There are magnificent palaces built by the nobility of this period. And the building I will talk about is Belvedere Palace. Once upon a time, a portrait collection was opened to the public. And it became one of the first public museums.

If I talk about its history, Prince Eugen made this palace famous for the defeats that the Ottoman Empire suffered.

This palace, built as a sign of the glory of the prince, was bought by Maria Theresia in later years. The portrait collection of the palace was exhibited publicly during the period of Maria Theresia.

The palace is a great example of baroque architecture with its lines and interior design. It consists of two parts as Upper Belvedere and Lower Belvedere. Another detail I want to say is that the palace contains wonderful works in the exhibition concept. One of these works is the Kiss by Gustav Klimt.

The palace took 10 years to build. The progressive descending and eventually tower-shaped rising parts are remarkable. Arched and frontal pediment arrangement is quite eye-catching. Besides the roof structure, which was influenced by German architecture, the building is integrated with the art of sculpture. A magnificent painting composition inside the palace pretty impresses the guests.

The dome in the central part of the palace was taken from the tent of Merzifonlu Kara Mustafa Pasha. Kiosks inside the palace are planned as Ottoman tents.
The Place’s magnificent architecture, exhibitions and garden are one of the most beautiful parts of Vienna. Vienna’s each street has a separate works of art and the places that every art lover should see.

Isla of the Death, Arnold Böcklin, 1880

Today I mentioned about a work, impressed me a lot. When you look at this work, it is comparing you with big expectations. The depiction of the loneliness makes you feel like you’re surrounded.

I can say to the deep portrayal of eternity is this work’s shining part. Because this island’s look was really full of loneliness and eternity.

The white figure is carrying the coffin to the island. And the island is not just a cemetery. This has more. The trees are looking like they’re keeping deep secrets in between to theirs. Maybe the bright figure leads this coffin to a beautiful eternity on the island. Who knows…

Once upon a time, almost every house in Berlin had this painting. There are 4 different versions of this paint. Some of them disappear during the war, some only have a black and white version. I also have to say that many painters are inspired by this painting, like Dali.

The Kiss, Gustav Klimt

Österreichische Galerie Belvedere

I think everyone who has an interest in art knows this work. When I wanted to have a blog, I wanted my favorite paintings to be here.

The Austrian painter Gustav Klimt’s paintings from 1907 to 1908. This was one of the most popular works of Klimt

This work, in which female and male figures are reflected in geometric shapes, has caused various debates.

Some people say the woman definitely doesn’t want to be kissed. According to another opinion, this woman gives herself a kiss with a peace.

If you ask me, it has a great story that’s far from the claim. Aesthetical pleasure, as well as this story feels me.

This art have Miracle enormous beauty and some different property. I said some different property cause I can’t describe them. Just you can feels them, you can’t describe them.
But I have a song that always plays when I look at this painting.

☄ You leapt from crumbling bridges watching cityscapes turn to dust
Filming helicopters crashing in the ocean from way above
Got the music in you baby,
Tell me why
Got the music in you baby,
Tell me why
You’ve been locked in here forever & you just can’t say goodbye
Kisses on the foreheads of the lovers wrapped in your arms
You’ve been hiding them in hollowed out pianos left in the dark… ☄Your lips,
My lips,
Apocalypse☄

Go & sneak us through the rivers,
Flood is rising up on your knees
Oh please…
Come out & haunt me
I know you want me
Come out & haunt me
Sharing all your secrets with each other since you were kids
Sleeping soundly with the locket that she gave you clutched in your fist…
When you’re all alone
I will reach for you
When you’re feeling low
I will be there too

Boats at Collioure, André Derain, 1905

Today I will write to you about a picture I want to make soon.

The painter used excellent colors and didn’t use the usual shades. He used the red and orange tones to indicate the temperature.
Combining brush strokes with this toning gives the painting an insatiable aesthetic pleasure.

He is one of the founders of Henri Matisse and Fauvism. Derain really uses colors admirably.
It is possible to visit his works in many cities in the world’s best museums.

There is also something I would like to add about him: Derain was influenced by Van Gogh, whom I admired for his unique yellow color.

The naive and beauty behind Derain’s paintings manages to impress people.
We thank him for his peaceful paintings! And, of course, I also thank you as a lover of Fauvism.

Artist

Filipp Malyavin

He’s Russian artist. He was a student at the Imperial Academy of Arts. He’s works are very impressed me because shiny colors and high contrasts are very stunning. So many pattern cames from this paint’s inside and catching my eyes to it. Sometimes questions for spontaneous arise in my head and i wanting to ask him, all of them. Malyavin attracted attention with the image of the woman reflected in his paintings. His works are different than his century’s other ones.

I mentioned before about that, the colors in his work make the subject more interesting. he educated about ikon but he felt very disappointed. Because he was thinking they’re not building new things or original works. He couldn’t go back to Russia ’cause he was spent to all money for his education. Then, someting happened and he met Beklemishev and Beklemishev liked to him’s works. He payed all money and he sent malyavin to Imperial Academy .

Malyavin made his first works under the influence of his ability to make portraits. He was impressed and educated by Ilya Repin but he’s works influenced by Anders Zorn. He earned fame with his work series about bright peasant womans. The one of them more famous the others, Whirlwind. We can see how he’s impressed to Anders Zorn on this work. He’s making paints with slow drying oil paint on canvas and he controlled the all colours with adroitly and catched to rthym.

He lived in Moscow and Paris and opened so many, succesfull exhibition. In second world War’s time he was in Belgium. He arrested and accoused from espionage. Then he released and walked to Nice. Malyavin was consume because the walk and all happened destroyed him; same year he died.
